Enhancing Private Sector Capacity for Climate and Clean Air Action in Nigeria project

This fact sheet describes a UK PACT-funded project designed to increase the capacity of Nigeria's private sector, particularly SMEs in transport, logistics, and infrastructure, to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) and short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) emissions.

• The transport sector in Nigeria is a primary source of air pollution, which is associated with more than 200,000 premature deaths every year, with vulnerable groups being particularly affected.
• Private sector participation in climate action, specifically among SMEs in transport, infrastructure, and logistics, is currently hindered by unclear regulations, limited access to finance, and weak technical capacity.
• The project aims to enable transport SMEs to integrate air quality and climate initiatives into their core operations, leading to the creation of customized emission-reduction strategies and operational modifications to lower carbon footprints.
• The initiative is structured around five interlinked activities: enhancing business capacity for climate and clean air action, enabling access to carbon markets and climate finance, strengthening regulatory and policy alignment, embedding inclusion and advocacy (GEDSI), and engaging high-emission sectors.
