CASCADE COMMUNITY SAFETY ACTION FOR SUPPORTING CLIMATE ADAPTATION

The CASCADE project is a 24-month initiative (2019–2020) funded by DG ECHO with a budget of 867,028 euros. It focuses on increasing risk management capability in the Baltic Sea Region through the development of an online tool for integrated climate change and disaster risk reduction, a risk assessment methodology for urban contexts, and training for city officials. The project also facilitates policy dialogues across governance levels to improve coherence on climate risk assessments and promote the UN Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

• The CASCADE project aims to increase practical risk management capability by developing integrated risk assessment methodologies specifically tailored for the local level to create more resilient societies.
• The project produces several specific outputs for Baltic Sea Region countries, including an online tool for integrated climate change and disaster risk reduction management, a risk assessment methodology for urban climate risks, training for civil protection officials, guidelines for local public administration on risk treatment, and multilevel policy dialogues.
• CASCADE intends to initiate a policy dialogue across the region regarding the UN Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to foster cross-sectorial cooperation and policy coherence in climate risk assessments.
