Fostering Interoperability of Data for Disaster Resilience

This perspective paper argues that a lack of interoperability across data, models, communication, and governance hinders the integration of disaster risk management and climate adaptation, proposing a transdisciplinary knowledge co-production approach and a federated data infrastructure to address these barriers.

• The authors identify a lack of interoperability between governance, information and communication, and data and models as a significant obstacle to the successful integration of climate adaptation and disaster risk management.
• To overcome challenges related to climate change and extreme weather events, the authors propose a transdisciplinary knowledge co-production approach designed to promote interoperability between climate change adaptation and disaster risk management.
• The paper introduces a framework to improve risk governance through knowledge co-production and suggests the use of a novel, open-source, federated data infrastructure to connect and consolidate information products, models, and data sources for stakeholders.
