Euro-bioeconomy & Global Development

This policy paper, prepared for the IEEP Think2030 conference, examines the implementation of the European Union's bioeconomy strategy and its potential impacts on international supply chains and supplier countries.

• The European Union will need to increase biomass imports to implement its bioeconomy strategy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, which necessitates avoiding the exacerbation of sustainability issues in the countries supplying these resources.
• National transitions to a bioeconomy should be integrated into a broader sustainability transition, requiring improvements in production and consumption to prevent excessive pressure on bioresources.
