Surveying perceptions and practices regarding high-end climate change

This research paper presents survey results from 2016 and 2018 regarding the adaptation community's perceptions and practices concerning high-end climate change scenarios, defined as global average temperature increases exceeding 2 °C by the end of the century.

• A majority of the surveyed adaptation community does not believe the Paris Agreement has decreased the likelihood of the world experiencing dangerous levels of climate change.
• Approximately two-thirds of the consulted individuals are either already using or are beginning to use high-end climate change scenarios in their professional work.
• Between 2016 and 2018, there was no improvement in views regarding the availability of decision-making tools and information on impacts, and preparedness for high-end impacts is not keeping pace with the threats.
• There is broad support for proceeding with large-scale adaptation measures rather than delaying them to wait for greater certainty.
