Effectiveness of climate change adaptation interventions in sub-Saharan Africa and the impact of funding modalities: a mixed methods systematic review protocol

This document is a research protocol outlining a methodological plan for a mixed methods systematic review. The review intends to evaluate the effectiveness of adaptation finance in sub-Saharan Africa by synthesizing academic and grey literature to determine how project characteristics and funding modalities influence adaptation outcomes, specifically regarding climate change risk and vulnerability.

• Current assessments of adaptation finance effectiveness are divided between focusing on procedural funding modality aspects, such as allocation equity, and the results produced by specific adaptation activities.
• The proposed systematic review aims to bridge the gap between procedural and result-based assessments by analyzing how adaptation project characteristics and their financing in sub-Saharan Africa affect outcomes related to climate change vulnerability and risk.
