Emerging regional perspectives of global climate change scenarios

A systematic review of 155 studies on regionalising global Shared Socio-economic Pathways (SSPs) identifies five key perspectives for their application. The research notes a historical reliance on emissions and mitigation scenarios, suggesting that reframing these scenarios can better support adaptation and vulnerability research, particularly outside high-income countries. While top-down approaches remain dominant, the study identifies an emergence of multigenerational regional analyses and the increasing use of participatory bottom-up methods to ensure cross-scale consistency.
