To what extent are land resource managers preparing for high-end climate change in Scotland?

This research paper examines how land resource managers in Scotland incorporate high-end climate change (HECC) scenarios—defined as global temperature increases exceeding 4°C—into their adaptation decision-making processes.

• Decision-makers do not directly integrate high-end climate change (HECC) scenarios into their current climate actions because they view these extreme projections as having a low probability of occurring.
• Adaptation strategies currently prioritize incremental solutions over transformative ones, with non-climate drivers often being as important as, or more important than, climate change itself in the decision-making process.
• While uncertainty in climate data is not seen as a major barrier and stakeholders do not feel they need more general climate information, there is a specific demand for more data regarding the sectoral and cross-sectoral impacts of HECC scenarios.
