Inclusive Climate-Resilient Transport in Africa Needs Assessment

The assessment examined the awareness and challenges of transport planners in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia, as well as other African regions, regarding the needs of disadvantaged groups and climate change risks. Using a mixed-method approach involving a regional survey, focus groups, and interviews, the study aims to inform a Guidance Framework for inclusive climate-resilient transport planning in Africa.

• The needs assessment focused on identifying the primary obstacles transport planners and decision-makers encounter when attempting to meet the mobility requirements of disadvantaged groups in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia, while also evaluating their awareness of climate change risks to transport systems.
• The study employed a mixed-method research design that included a regional survey with 135 participants, 55 national focus groups, and 51 stakeholder interviews to identify common challenges and needs for achieving inclusive climate-resilient transport systems.
