Emission Inventory Tool Côte d’Ivoire

This research paper describes the application of the Global Atmospheric Pollution Forum Emission Inventory (GAPF-EI) tool in Côte d’Ivoire to identify key air pollutant and greenhouse gas emission sources, highlighting its utility for low- and middle-income countries.

• The Global Atmospheric Pollution Forum Emission Inventory (GAPF-EI) tool is designed for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to compile emission inventories for pollutants including SO2, NOX, CO, NMVOC, CH4, NH3, PM10, PM 2.5, black carbon, organic carbon, and CO2. The tool uses default emission factors and methods that align with internationally recognised approaches and allows for the estimation of emissions from technologies and practices specific to LMICs.
• When applied to Côte d’Ivoire, the GAPF-EI tool identified several critical emission sources: traditional biomass cookstoves, vegetation fires, traditional charcoal manufacture, road transport (specifically including dust from unpaved roads), and the open burning of municipal solid waste.
• The GAPF-EI tool originated from a manual for Northeast Asia sponsored by UNDP/UN DESA and was further developed with co-sponsorship from the BOC Foundation, the USEPA, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) via the RAPIDC and GAPF programmes.
