The Angovo project, implemented by ANKA in southern Madagascar, is a Team Europe green energy initiative deploying solar mini-grids to enhance rural energy access, stimulate economic development, and mitigate CO2 emissions through a blended finance model.

• The Angovo project aims to install over 3.5 MWp of green energy infrastructure, with an average of 170 kWp per site. As of the report date, 1,656 kWp have been installed.
• The project targets a total of 15,600 direct connections, reaching approximately 70,000 beneficiaries. Of these connections, 80% are households, 18% are productive users (such as refrigeration and metal works), and 2% are public and social institutions including public health centres and schools.
• ANKA has already constructed four mini-grids, including the three largest in Madagascar, and plans to implement 12 additional sites to electrify 37 new villages, bringing the total to 51 villages.
• The project utilizes a blended finance model with a total budget of EUR 14,550,000, which includes a EUR 7,420,000 grant. Funding is provided by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union (EU), with technical assistance from GIZ and private investments from Canopy, atmosfair, Realize Impact, and Ground Squirrel Ventures.
• The project aims to mitigate approximately 5,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year; currently, 2,300 tonnes of CO2 are avoided.
