ARE MEMBERS AT A GLANCE Capacity Building

This fact sheet describes the capacity building initiatives of the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), focusing on its Investment Academies for financial access and the CORE Initiative for technical training in decentralized renewable energy (DRE).

• The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), established in 2006, serves as an international business association with over 200 members aimed at promoting a sustainable decentralized renewable energy (DRE) industry in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
• ARE provides Investment Academies and rural electrification masterclasses for small and medium-scale enterprises to improve their access to finance. Over the last three years, six editions of these academies have been held in English and French, covering business plan development, pitch deck writing, and the DRE finance landscape. The program consists of three classroom learning modules and a final module for face-to-face pitching to international investors.
• The CORE Initiative, established by ARE and its partners, provides technical training for governments, communities, and practitioners to support renewable electrification projects. Training topics include solar home systems, mini-grids, microgrids, solar thermal energy, and the productive use of renewable energies.
• ARE's capacity building efforts have reached 15 countries, training 3,050 practitioners, 210 trainers, and over 100 (M)SMEs across 24 conducted modules.
