ARE MEMBERS AT A GLANCE Capacity Building

The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) provides capacity building through two primary channels: Investment Academies, which help small and medium enterprises secure finance through modules on business planning and pitching, and the CORE Initiative, which offers technical training on DRE systems like mini-grids and solar thermal energy. These programs have trained 3,050 practitioners and 210 trainers across 15 countries, targeting the development of bankable projects and the transfer of engineering skills to enhance energy access and security in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

• ARE operates Investment Academies and rural electrification masterclasses for medium and small-scale enterprises, having conducted six editions in English and French over the last three years. The program consists of four modules covering business plan development, pitch deck writing, and the DRE finance landscape, culminating in face-to-face pitching to international investors.
• The CORE Initiative, established by ARE and its partners, provides technical training for governments, communities, and practitioners on topics such as solar home systems, mini-grids, microgrids, solar thermal energy, and the productive use of renewable energies to address technical assistance needs in DRE systems.
• ARE's capacity building efforts have achieved specific quantitative milestones, including the training of 3,050 practitioners and 210 trainers across 15 countries, with over 100 (M)SMEs trained through 24 conducted modules.
• ARE identifies that capacity building is essential for creating a stronger pipeline of bankable projects for investors, empowering local entrepreneurs to secure financial resources, and enabling the transfer of skills for implementing scalable and reliable renewable energy systems.
