Total public steel demand in these focus countries is estimated at 38.2 million tons per annum, and aligning public procurement with climate targets could generate an additional 11.5 million tons of demand for near-zero emissions steel.

Addressing these requires a mix of supply-side and demand-side incentives, stringent emissions standards, and demand aggregation tools like the Sustainable Steel Buyers Platform.
