• Neotel secured multi-million rand contracts, including a R1.8bn telecom service agreement and CCTV contracts, after paying over R100 million in commissions to Homix, a shell company linked to the Gupta family.
• Regiments Capital and Trillian were paid over R600 million for advisory services that the report argues could have been performed by Transnet's own internal treasury. This included arranging loans and interest rate swaps that transferred risk to the Transnet Second Defined Benefit Fund.
• Iqbal Sharma, while serving as a Transnet board member and chair of the BADC, failed to declare a conflict of interest regarding his acquisition of VRLS Properties, which owned the premises of VR Laser, a potential subcontractor for locomotive builders.
