Supporting vulnerable CDM projects through credit purchase facilities

This research paper evaluates the role of national and multinational credit purchase facilities in supporting Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects at risk of discontinuing greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement between 2013 and 2020.

• Between 2013 and 2020, the potential Certified Emission Reduction (CER) supply from registered CDM projects with a high vulnerability to discontinuation was estimated at 171 million CERs, which represents less than 4 percent of the total potential CER supply of 4.65 billion CERs for that period.
