Update GHG mitigation scenarios for major emitting countries: an overview of

This document provides an overview of climate and energy policies adopted since July 2017 across 25 major emitting countries and regions, supplementing a 2017 report on projected greenhouse gas emissions for 2030.

• The report identifies newly adopted policies designed to support long-term decarbonisation in alignment with the Paris Agreement, specifically highlighting carbon taxes, the phase-out or phase-down of coal power plants, support for electric vehicles, energy-efficient buildings, renewable energy, and the strengthening of 2030 mitigation targets (NDCs).
• The assessment covers 25 countries and regions that include all G20 nations (excluding four individual EU member states) and accounted for 79% of total global greenhouse gas emissions in 2012.
• The document defines adopted policies as executive orders, legislative decisions, or their equivalents, excluding general publicly announced plans or strategies unless they include specific implementation instruments. The scope is limited to measures with a direct effect on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, though some important planned or proposed policies are included.
