Improving co-benefits and triple-win impacts from climate action: the role of tools

This CDI Practice Paper examines how guidance tools can support interventions aimed at achieving 'triple wins'—the simultaneous advancement of climate adaptation, mitigation, and development.

• The paper identifies a gap in existing research regarding how tools can bridge the practical divide between adaptation, mitigation, and development, despite a proliferation of tools focused on adaptation or mitigation individually within development contexts.
• The author suggests three key considerations for tools to help achieve 'triple wins': recognizing that tools define and shape goals rather than just implementing actions; acknowledging that integration often occurs through the users' own efforts and varying starting points; and ensuring tools are supplemented by analysis of outcomes, goals, and actors since tools alone cannot solve complex problems.
