A study by the NewClimate Institute finds that current climate policy in the German transport sector is consistent with a global temperature increase of approximately 3°C, significantly exceeding the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement.

• Current climate policy implemented in the German transport sector through 2030 aligns with a global warming level of approximately 3°C. If all countries and sectors delayed emission reductions to the same extent as the German transport sector, a 3°C global temperature increase would be expected.
• The German transport sector is the worst performing sector in Germany regarding climate targets. Between 2016 and 2030, it is projected to consume nearly double the CO2 budget allocated for maintaining a 1.5°C limit (at a 67% probability of compliance), exceeding that budget by 1,000 MtCO2eq (or 840 MtCO2eq at a 50% probability).
• No sector in Germany is currently on track to meet the 1.5°C target, with sectoral trajectories ranging between 1.9°C and 3.1°C, and an overall average of 2.3°C. This contradicts Germany's international obligations under the Paris Agreement.
