Aligning Agribusiness and the Broader Food System with the Paris Agreement

• The proposed rating system divides agribusinesses into four categories to guide investment: 'misaligned', 'mostly misaligned', 'partially misaligned', and 'aligned'.
• Investments are considered 'misaligned' if they involve agricultural commodity production that expands production, drives deforestation, converts peatland or coastal wetland ecosystems, or depends on air freight for export.
• Agribusinesses are categorized as 'aligned' if they are deforestation-free and follow best practices in irrigation, fertiliser application, soil carbon conservation, and manure management, or if they specialize in plant-based protein alternatives or carbon-sink enhancing practices like agroforestry.
