GHG mitigation policies in major emitting countries: an overview of recently adopted and under development policies

This document provides an overview of approximately 50 climate and energy policies adopted or underS under development between July 2018 and May 2019 across 25 countries and regions, supplementing a December 2018 report on projected greenhouse gas emissions.

• Between July 2018 and May 2019, approximately 50 policies with potential significant impacts on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were adopted or developed in 25 selected countries. The highest level of policy activity occurred in the energy sector with 29 entries, followed by transport (six), forestry (six), industry and industrial processes (two), and agriculture and waste (two), alongside seven cross-sectoral policies.
• While most identified policyS policy developments are expected to reduce GHG emissions, the document notes specific instances where policies are expected to increase emissions, specifically the expansion of fossil fuel exploration in Argentina and various proposed rollbacks of regulations fromSSS under the previous administration in the United States.
• SS Of the 25 countries assessed, four have submitted long-term GHG emissions development strategies to the UNFCCC, while five others have either developed drafts or adopted theseS these strategies domestically.
