NATIONAL ADAPTATION PLAN (NAP) APPROACH

The Somali National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process, led by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, utilizes a participatory and gender-responsive approach aligned with peacebuilding. The process is currently supported by a Green Climate Fund-funded NAP Readiness Project implemented by the UNDP. Key adaptation priorities include sectors such as agriculture, water, health, and coastal zones, addressing impacts like severe droughts, flooding, and sea level rise. Significant milestones between 2018 and 2022 include the launch of the National Disaster Management Policy, the National Climate Change Policy, and the 2021 NAP Framework.

• Somalia's NAP approach is designed to be inclusive, gender-responsive, and participatory, integrating local knowledge, science, and the peacebuilding agenda.
• The government is currently executing the NAP Readiness Project to improve climate action capacities and adaptation planning, with funding from the Green Climate Fund and implementation support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
