Statement on the Launch of the African Conference of Commandants Web Portal

The Institute for Security Studies announced the launch of a web portal for the African Conference of Commandants (ACoC) on 23 October 2008. The ACoC seeks to enhance cooperation and standardization among African military staff colleges to support the African Standby Force and Peace and Support Operations. The ISS's Security Sector Governance programme serves as the ACoC Secretariat and maintains the website.

• The African Conference of Commandants (ACoC) launched a web portal intended to serve as the public interface for the organization, which consists of military command and staff colleges across Africa.
• The ACoC aims to support the African Standby Force (ASF) and Peace and Support Operations (PSOs) by improving cooperation, standardization, interoperability, commonality, and harmonization among African Staff Colleges.
• The objectives of the ACoC include improving African Security by transforming military education and training, as well as fostering cooperation through academic accreditation, benchmarking, college curriculum best practice, DS Exchange programmes, and investigating the possibility of an annual Combined Joint African Exercise (CJAX).
• The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) hosts and maintains the ACoC website, and its Security Sector Governance (SSG) programme currently acts as the Secretariat for the ACoC.
