In their words: Communication for development

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) helped MTN develop the Situational Awareness and Integrated Response (SAIR) system, an open-source informatics tool used to gather intelligence and manage security in volatile markets across Africa and the Middle East.

• The ISS assisted MTN in creating the Situational Awareness and Integrated Response (SAIR) system, which utilizes open-source informatics and software to facilitate intelligence gathering, information flow, and reputation management.
• The SAIR system allows MTN to collect and analyze data from various media and social media platforms to evaluate regulatory environments and inform decision-makers.
• MTN utilizes the ISS's expertise in forecasting socio-economic, security, and development indices to navigate challenges and opportunities in its markets, which include volatile states such as Nigeria, Liberia, Congo-Brazzaville, South Sudan, Côte D’Ivoire, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and Iran.
