Mailed Fist: Developments in Modern Armour

The text defines armour as a conceptual approach to combat emphasizing firepower, mobility, shock effect, and versatility. It argues that military employment and budgets are political decisions, noting that the 'post-Cold-War phase' has led to global defence budget cuts—termed the 'peace dividend'—and a shift in military operations from bipolar confrontation toward peacekeeping and peace enforcement.

• Armour is defined not as a specific weapon system or tank, but as a conceptual approach to combat characterized by firepower, mobility, shock effect, and versatility.
• The transition to a post-Cold War era has resulted in global reductions in defence budgets, described as the 'peace dividend', through processes of downsizing, right-sizing, and resizing, which has impacted armament production and development.
• Military operations have shifted from bipolar confrontations toward international interventions categorized as peacekeeping, wider peacekeeping, and peace enforcing.
