Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding Between the ISS and the Lake Victoria Basin Commission

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on environmental intelligence and security. The ISS will provide technical support, analysis, and capacity-building training to the LVBC through its Nairobi office.

• The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for cooperation and collaboration focused on environmental intelligence and security.
• Under the agreement, the ISS Nairobi office will support the LVBC by providing technical and expert advice on development matters, conducting studies and analysis of comparative practices, and organizing training programs, seminars, and workshops to improve the capacity of the LVBC regarding environmental security.
• The ISS maintains existing collaborations with other intergovernmental organizations in Eastern Africa, including the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the Eastern Africa Standby Brigade (EASBRICOM), and the Eastern African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO). Work with EAPCCO specifically involves the project against environmental crime in eight Eastern African countries (ECP) and the operationalisation of the Eastern Africa Protocol to Combat, Prevent and Eradicate Cattle Rustling.
