Sudanese are losing hope with each new peace initiative

This research paper by the Institute for Security Studies argues that the proliferation of competing peace initiatives in Sudan since April 2023 has allowed the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to 'forum-shop' and avoid commitment to a lasting peace, while the humanitarian crisis worsens.

• The humanitarian situation in Sudan is critical, characterized by over 25 million people facing acute hunger and nearly 10 million internally displaced persons. Both the SAF and RSF are accused of blocking humanitarian access.
• The author recommends that the AU integrate and harmonise peace efforts under a single African umbrella by revising the AU Roadmap for the Resolution of the Crisis in Sudan to establish a clear division of labour among the various initiatives.
