Communities and Adaptation: The Climate Change, Vulnerable vulnerability of social and economic systems

The IUCN-IISD-SEI-B Initiative focuses on strengthening human resilience to climate change by integrating environmental management into disaster reduction and poverty alleviation policies. The initiative seeks to identify environmental actions that reduce vulnerability, provide implementation guidelines, build institutional capacity, and integrate environmental options into international policy frameworks. Planned outputs include a conceptual framework, case studies, regional consultations, and a network of policy institutions.

• The IUCN-IISD-SEI-B Initiative has four primary objectives: identifying environmental actions to reduce community vulnerability, providing implementation guidelines, building the capacity of national and regional institutions to address environmental sources of vulnerability, and integrating environmental options into international policy frameworks for disaster reduction, climate change, biodiversity conservation, and poverty alleviation.
• The initiative is guided by the Task Force on Climate Change, Vulnerable Communities and Adaptation, and will produce a common conceptual framework, case studies, regional consultations, guidelines for environmental tools, and a network of regional and national policy institutions.
