Sustainable Asset Valuation Assessment of Dire Dawa, Ethiopia (ETB)

• Between 2025 and 2050, the project is expected to save ETB 317.4 million in avoided infrastructure repair and health costs. This includes ETB 188.1 million specifically from avoided flash flood damage to infrastructure, ETB 65.8 million from reduced health costs related to water pollution, ETB 33.3 million from flood-related health costs, and ETB 30.1 million from urban heat health costs.
• The NbS implementation includes afforestation of 350 hectares (750,000 trees), 83 hectares of buffer zones (182,500 trees and grasses), agroforestry across 385 hectares (420,000 trees), and urban greening (12,500 trees). These efforts are expected to yield ETB 65.4 million from carbon sequestration (up to 175,000 tonnes CO2 stored) and ETB 54.2 million from the creation of 6,900 new jobs.
• With an investment of ETB 281.2 million and a discount rate of 10% over a time horizon of 2025–2050, the project is expected to result in cumulative net benefits of ETB 101.6 million.
