The Knowledge to Act

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is an independent policy research organization that operates across six primary programs: Economic Law and Policy, Energy, Water, Resilience, SDG Knowledge, and Reporting Services. The organization focuses on creating holistic, interconnected solutions to global challenges, providing technical support to developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and tracking the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. • The organization provides specific capacity-building and technical support to government officials in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to help them negotiate investment-related contracts and design policies for inclusive growth, particularly in the agricultural and mining sectors.
• IISD's energy program focuses on reducing fossil-based transport fuel consumption and assisting authorities in selecting electricity generation systems that are financially viable and equitable.
• The organization maintains the SDG Knowledge Hub and the Earth Negotiations Bulletin to provide transparent, real-time tracking of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and international environmental negotiations.
• IISD implements diverse country-specific projects, including supporting India's transition from kerosene to solar power, assisting Indonesia in phasing out fossil fuel subsidies, and testing green finance for soil restoration in China.
