Policy Action Framework: Improving product sustainability information in e-commerce

The report argues that the growth of e-commerce and increasing consumer environmental concern provide an opportunity to accelerate sustainable consumption. It proposes a Policy Action Framework consisting of five core and three supporting actions to help policy-makers regulate product sustainability information online.

• The report identifies two primary trends that can be leveraged to accelerate the shift toward sustainable consumption: the increasing number of global consumers willing to change habits to reduce their environmental footprint and the continued growth of e-commerce following the COVID-19 pandemic.
• To realize the potential of e-commerce in promoting sustainable consumption, the report establishes a Policy Action Framework for regulators that includes five core actions and three supporting actions.
