Towards Gender-Responsive NAP Processes: Progress and Recommendations for the Way Forward

This report analyzes the integration of gender-responsive considerations within National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes, drawing on a review of documents from NAP Central as of January 2018 and data from country NAP teams to provide lessons and themes for countries and development partners.

• As of March 2023, 98% of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) mention gender, and roughly 50% identify women as agents of change in climate change adaptation.
• Gender-responsive adaptation planning requires both an understanding of climate impacts and the creation of gender-equitable decision-making processes, including at the national level.
