Alignment to Advance Climate-Resilient Development | Country Case Study: Colombia

This case study examines Colombia's efforts to align its national policy processes under three global agendas: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. It specifically focuses on the integration of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process, and the strategy for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

• Colombia has achieved significant progress in aligning its NDC, NAP process, and SDG implementation strategy, with policy documents identifying specific synergies and links. This alignment allows the national government to communicate coherent messages regarding adaptation.
• Colombia can further its strategic alignment by utilizing existing institutional coordination mechanisms that involve a consistent group of stakeholders across the three policy processes.
• There are three primary entry points for strengthening alignment in Colombia: creating information-sharing tools for coordination mechanisms, building capacities at local and sub-national levels to make alignment actionable, and improving the articulation of adaptation monitoring, evaluation, and tracking to enhance reporting and learning.
