Sustainable Asset Valuation of the Recovery of the Bogotá River, Colombia

This Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) report assesses the economic and environmental impact of nature-based infrastructure (NBI) and hybrid infrastructure interventions in the Bogotá River basin, concluding that these investments provided significant net benefits in flood protection and water quality.

• Hybrid infrastructure combining grey systems with nature-based infrastructure (NBI) produced a positive return on investment, yielding USD 1.27 in benefits for every USD 1 spent and total net benefits of USD 349 million over the project's lifetime.
• The restoration of river functions and wetlands through NBI reduced flood risk, which avoided an estimated USD 828 million in damages to infrastructure, businesses, and homes throughout the Bogotá River basin.
• The largest portion of total benefits, valued at USD 554 million, was derived from ecosystem services and improvements in water quality, which contributed to environmental quality, urban resilience, and quality of life.
