The Path to Paris, Part 1: Bonn Climate Change Conference, March 10-14, 2014

The March 2014 Bonn Climate Change Conference served as the first negotiating session of the year for UNFCCC Parties to identify elements for a new universal climate agreement and exchange views on intended nationally-determined contributions (INDCs).

• The Bonn meeting was the first instance where UNFCCC Parties exchanged views on the scope and nature of post-2020 intended nationally-determined contributions (INDCs), which all countries were required to submit by March 31, 2015.
• Parties at the conference were tasked with identifying components for a new universal climate change agreement to be established in 2015 and implemented by 2020, while also seeking short-term actions to increase ambition.
• The conference included the start of technical workshops focused on cooperation, technologies, and policies with high mitigation potential for short-term introduction.
