Enhancing Caribbean Civil Society’s Access and Readiness for Climate Finance: Scoping Report

This scoping report examines the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in climate action and their access to climate finance within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region, noting that governments cannot address climate risks alone.

• Caribbean countries are highly vulnerable to climate risks that can rapidly reverse development progress, necessitating a collaborative approach to climate action involving governments, local communities, the private sector, international partners, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
• The project 'Enhancing Caribbean Civil Society’s Access and Readiness for Climate Finance' is being implemented by national designated authorities (NDAs) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in seven CARICOM Member States: Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Suriname.
• Jamaica has introduced a gender and climate change strategy and action plan (GCCSAP), which was informed by a national gender and climate change assessment regarding policy and institutional contexts for gender-responsive climate action.
