Enhancing Caribbean Civil Society’s Access and Readiness for Climate Finance: Scoping Report

The report examines the necessity of involving civil society organizations (CSOs) in climate action to support Caribbean governments facing disproportionate climate risks. It is part of a project funded by the Green Climate Fund's Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme, implemented across seven CARICOM Member States to enhance CSO access and readiness for climate finance.

• Caribbean countries are highly vulnerable to climate risks that can rapidly reverse long-term development progress, necessitating a collaborative approach to climate action involving governments, local communities, the private sector, international partners, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
• A project to enhance CSO access and readiness for climate finance is being implemented by national designated authorities (NDAs) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in seven CARICOM Member States: Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Suriname.
• Jamaica has introduced a gender and climate change strategy and action plan (GCCSAP) based on a national assessment of policy and institutional contexts to enable gender-responsive climate action.
