The NAP Process and Peacebuilding

This briefing note discusses the necessity and challenges of integrating National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes with peacebuilding agendas in fragile and unstable contexts to enhance long-term stability and resilience.

• Integrating adaptation planning and peacebuilding processes is critical for the sustainable development of regions and states attempting to prevent, stop, or recover from conflict, as alignment between these efforts can improve legitimacy, resilience, and long-term stability.
• Governments in fragile contexts face significant obstacles in prioritizing climate change action due to the urgent need to address immediate crises, such as security, public service restoration, and suffering, often while operating with limited resources and under the threat of violence.
