Real People, Real Change: Strategies for just energy transitions

This report by the International Institute for Sustainable Development provides strategies to help governments in developed and developing countries implement just energy transitions, drawing on research and case studies from six countries.

• The report argues that delaying the transition of declining carbon-intensive industries can be more expensive than early action, as inaction often results in increased subsidies, higher costs for retraining workers, unemployment, and environmental and health costs, while hindering economic diversification.
• A just transition is defined not as a rigid set of rules, but as a process and vision based on a tripartite agenda shared by governments, industry, and workers, which must be negotiated and implemented according to specific social, political, cultural, and geographical contexts.
