Leveraging the National Adaptation Plan Process for Adaptation Communications

The report details the NAP Global Network's support for 22 countries in leveraging their National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes to create Adaptation Communications (AdComs) for the UNFCCC. It argues that utilizing NAP results for AdComs is effective regardless of whether a country is in the early stages of the NAP process or has been implementing it for several years, thereby boosting the profile of adaptation needs and progress while avoiding redundant reporting burdens.

• Countries can effectively use the results and outputs of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process to prepare Adaptation Communications (AdComs) regardless of their current progress in the NAP cycle, whether they are just starting or have been implementing for several years.
• Adaptation Communications serve as a strategic tool for countries to increase the visibility of their climate adaptation needs and progress to the UNFCCC without creating an excessive additional reporting burden.
• The NAP Global Network has provided support to 22 partner countries in utilizing their NAP processes to prepare their initial adaptation communications to the UNFCCC.
