Gender-Responsive National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Processes: Progress and promising examples

This synthesis report by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) evaluates the integration of gender-responsive approaches within National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes globally, coinciding with the midpoint of the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan.

• There is a significant increase in the integration of gender considerations in National Adaptation Plans submitted to the UNFCCC, with 97% of developing countries now incorporating these elements and 29% specifically referring to gender responsiveness, compared to 0% in 2018.
• Roughly half of the National Adaptation Plans acknowledge the role of women as agents of change, suggesting that incorporating their lived experiences can improve the results of adaptation efforts.
