Planning for the Future

This guidebook provides tools and guidance for watershed planners and authorities in Manitoba to integrate climate adaptation planning into the development and update of integrated watershed management plans (IWMP).

• Manitoba's 27 integrated watershed management planning areas are responsible for balancing ecosystem, community, and economic health through the creation and periodic update of integrated watershed management plans (IWMP).
• The guidebook aims to enhance climate resilience by identifying entry points for adaptation planning within the existing IWMP process to address risks such as warmer temperatures, severe wildfires, changing precipitation patterns, and more frequent floods and droughts.
• The guidebook provides specific resources for adaptation planning, including methods to assess climate change impacts, strategies to build risk management capacity, guidance on long-term investments, a guide for using the Climate Atlas of Canada, five worksheets, and a list of resources.
