Identificación de prioridades regionales sobre Cambio Ambiental Global

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) surveyed 16 member countries to identify priorities and barriers regarding global environmental change. Climate action is the top current priority, while energy security and human health are key emergent priorities. Major barriers to using scientific data in decision-making include a lack of inter-sectoral collaboration and a shortage of non-technical information, while multilateral agreements and international funding are seen as primary opportunities.

• Among current priorities related to global environmental change, climate action was the most frequently cited by IAI member countries, followed by biodiversity and ecosystem services.
• The most prominent emergent priorities identified by IAI member countries include energy security, human health and wellbeing, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and clean air, soil and water.
• The primary barriers hindering the use of scientific information for decision-making are a lack of collaboration between sectors and a deficiency of scientific information tailored for non-technical audiences.
• IAI member countries identified the existence of multilateral agreements and international funding and cooperation as the most common opportunities to utilize scientific information in decision-making.
