The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) has appointed five representatives from Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Peru to its new Indigenous Peoples Advisory Committee (IPAC). The selection follows a call for candidates open from February 5 to March 19, 2025, which received 14 applications from across the Americas. The selected members were chosen for their ability to integrate indigenous and western knowledge systems to address global environmental change.

• The creation of the Indigenous Peoples Advisory Committee (IPAC) was mandated by Decision XXXII/19 of the Conference of the Parties during its 32nd meeting in May 2024, which also called for a committee for local communities.
• A call for candidates for the IPAC was open from February 5, 2025, to March 19, 2025, resulting in 14 applications from Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay.
• Five individuals were selected for the committee based on their expertise in integrating indigenous and western knowledge systems and their focus on global environmental change: Myrle Ballard (Canada), Oliva Patricia Suárez Torres (Colombia), Francisco Ramiro Batzín Chojoj (Guatemala), Cristina Elizabeth Fueres Guitarra (Ecuador), and Guipsy Katherine Alata Ramos (Peru).
