The IAI has launched the STeP Fellowship Program, starting with a pilot in Argentina's agricultural sector involving three post-doctoral scientists funded by CREA and CONICET. Modeled after the AAAS program, STeP aims to place scientists in government or private organizations to facilitate the integration of scientific knowledge into policy processes across Latin America and the Caribbean.

• The IAI officially launched the pilot of the Science, Technology, Policy (STeP) Fellowship Program on 11 June 2020, focusing initially on the private sector in collaboration with the Consorcios Regionales de Expermientación Agrícola (CREA).
• The first iteration of the program consists of three post-doctoral scientists in the agricultural sector, funded jointly by CONICET and CREA in Argentina.
• The STeP program is modeled after the AAAS Science, Technology, Policy Fellowships (STPF) Program and is designed to be a regional program for Latin America and the Caribbean that connects fellows and host institutions across the Americas.
• The program's objective is to improve human and institutional capacities in IAI member countries and provide expert scientific advice to policy makers regarding sustainable development and global change.
• The IAI is in advanced negotiations with two additional Parties to implement further pilots covering themes such as public health, cities, resilience, natural disasters, tourism, governance, and indigenous communities.
