EC-XXXVII - CoP-XXII – EC XXXVIII

The 38th Meeting of the IAI Executive Council focused on establishing the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), drafting a statement on climate change adaptation for the UNFCCC COP 20, and adopting Research Gate to enhance scientific collaboration. The Council also elected a new leadership board and reviewed actions from previous meetings.

• The Executive Council established the initial framework for the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), designating nine initial members for a one-year term. The committee is tasked with identifying key regional partners, contacting national representatives, and developing its own terms of reference and regulations by the next Conference of the Parties (CoP).
• The IAI decided to issue a formal statement to the 20th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 20) in Peru. This statement emphasizes the necessity of strengthening climate change adaptation in Latin America through science, technology, and regional capacity development.
• A commission consisting of Peru, Brazil, Mexico, and the president of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) was created to draft the statement for the UNFCCC COP 20. Once the final text is approved, Uruguay will present it on behalf of the IAI.
• The Executive Council approved the introduction of Research Gate, a professional social network for scientists, to facilitate the connection of IAI researchers and the open sharing of publications.
• The Executive Council elected a new leadership board consisting of Maria Uhle (USA) as President, Carlos Ereño (Argentina) as First Vice President, and Eric Gagné (Canada) as Second Vice President.
