Informe de actividades de la Dirección Ejecutiva del IAI durante el período entre las sesiones 2019 – 2020

The IAI Executive Directorate's 2019-2020 report details progress in transdisciplinary research, capacity building, and open science, while noting significant disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Key achievements include the launch of the Science, Technology, and Policy (STeP) fellowship program in Argentina and the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Organization of American States (OAS). • The IAI has updated its scientific program, in coordination with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), to better incorporate transdisciplinary research with a specific focus on human systems and issues.
• In February 2020, the IAI submitted a five-year funding proposal to the National Science Foundation (NSF) to create a flexible funding mechanism for global change research in the Americas, intended to align with the Belmont Forum's Collaborative Research Actions (CRA).
• The Science, Technology, and Policy (STeP) fellowship program was officially launched in June 2020, starting with a pilot in Argentina involving the private sector and the Association of Regional Agricultural Experimentation Consortia (CREA), with four fellows funded by CONICET from 2020 to 2022.
• The IAI signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Organization of American States (OAS) in March 2019 to strengthen scientific contributions to policy responses and develop human and institutional capacities for sustainable development in the Americas.
• To promote open science and data, the IAI established a Cooperation Memorandum with RedCLARA for regional standardization and technical capacity improvement, and contributed to UNESCO's consultation on Open Science regarding South-South cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The COVID-19 pandemic forced the 28th Conference of the Parties (CoP-28), originally planned for Asunción, Paraguay, to be moved to August 2020 as a virtual meeting and led to the postponement of several regional meetings on resilience in the Caribbean and drought in Uruguay.
