The IAI Executive Council approved the meeting agenda and previous minutes, and initiated steps to establish a collaboration agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank. The Council also approved participation in upcoming environmental and Americas summits in Quebec and Montreal, directed the preparation of a project termination procedure for the 2001 Conference of the Parties, and called for increased member country engagement and the payment of voluntary budget contributions.

• The Executive Council recommended that the IAI Director and the Council President seek a personal meeting with the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to discuss IAI activities and propose a formal institutional collaboration agreement.
• The Council approved the IAI's participation in the Meeting of Ministers of the Environment in Quebec (March 2001) and the Summit of the Americas in Montreal (April 2001).
• The Director was tasked with finalizing a document titled "Procedure for Terminating a Project" in consultation with the US delegation and the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), with a draft due for member country comments by January 31, 2001, for approval at the 2001 Eighth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
• The Executive Council addressed member engagement and funding, requesting an inventory of the status of less active member countries to increase institutional links and urging all members to make their voluntary contributions to the IAI operating budget on time.
