EXECUTIVE COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS LIST

The IAI Executive Council resolutions from June 1999 detail financial commitments for scientific capacity and climate variability research, the establishment of working groups for fund raising and training, and administrative updates to the IAI Directorate's structure and governance policies.

• The US National Science Foundation committed between US$ 250,000 and 300,000 to support the first year of the Program to Expand the Scientific Capacity in the Americas (PESCA), with subsequent funding contingent on the program's first-year success.
• The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/Office of Global Programs announced a contribution of up to US$ 100,000 for the first year of the IAI Collaborative Research Network Program (CRN), specifically for projects addressing climate variability.
• The Executive Council established and approved the composition and terms of reference for two working groups: a Training and Education (T&E) group, which will conduct a new survey on regional training and education, and a Fund Raising working group; both have two-year appointments.
• The Council approved a restructuring of the IAI Directorate, requiring job descriptions for all staff and establishing that Project Managers report to the IAI Director or other officers on a case-by-case basis.
• The Executive Council approved a strategy to expand the IAI's reach by contacting and encouraging non-member countries in the Caribbean to join the institute.
