STRATEGIC PLAN 2024–2030

The IAI Strategic Plan 2024–2030 focuses on three strategic themes: meeting the needs of Parties to address global environmental change, developing science for the sustainability of the Americas, and ensuring the sustainability of the IAI. These themes are implemented through 10 strategic goals, including the promotion of transdisciplinary research on biodiversity, climate change adaptation, and water-food-energy nexuses, as well as strengthening science-policy interfaces and regional funding networks.

• The strategic plan is structured around three primary themes: addressing global environmental change challenges for Parties, contributing science to the sustainability of the Americas, and ensuring the IAI's own sustainability.
• The IAI prioritizes specific environmental areas for research and action, including biodiversity and ecosystem services (specifically tropical and subtropical forests facing deforestation), climate change adaptation and mitigation (focusing on oceans, coasts, and islands), and water, food, and energy issues in mountain and arid regions.
• The institute aims to enhance the science-policy interface and regional cooperation by strengthening networks of science funders, collaborating with the Belmont Forum, and increasing the participation of scientists and decision-makers from IAI Parties in global forums.
• Organizational goals for the 2024–2030 period include expanding the number of Member States, increasing the IAI's presence in the Caribbean and Central America, and establishing advisory committees for local communities and indigenous people.
