PLAN ESTRATÉGICO 2024-2030

The IAI Strategic Plan 2024-2030 outlines a framework to achieve scientific excellence and strengthen international cooperation regarding global environmental change in the Americas. The plan is organized around three strategic themes: addressing the needs of member Parties, developing science for sustainability, and ensuring the institutional sustainability of the IAI.

• The IAI has identified four priority scientific areas for transdisciplinary research: biodiversity and ecosystem services (focusing on tropical and subtropical forests threatened by deforestation), climate, environment and health, climate change adaptation and mitigation (focusing on oceans, coasts, and islands), and water, food, and energy (specifically in mountain and arid zones). Additionally, social inequity, mobility, and environmental change are listed as a priority.
• The strategic goal to develop science for sustainability in the Americas involves promoting transdisciplinary research through seed funding and calls for proposals, aligning regional research on global environmental change, and fostering transdisciplinary capacity building.
• To enhance the use of scientific information in decision-making, the IAI aims to expand the STeP program, strengthen its Virtual Campus, and implement a policy for open data and publications.
• The IAI intends to promote a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion by providing training and communication on these topics and establishing advisory committees for local communities and indigenous peoples.
• The institutional sustainability of the IAI depends on securing long-term stable funding, increasing the number of member States, and expanding the organization's presence in the Caribbean and Central America.
