REPORT OF THE IAI SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAC) CHAIR TO THE 19th MEETING OF THE IAI EXECUTIVE COUNCIL (EC)

This report details the proceedings of the 20th meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), held in Ottawa, Canada, on April 1-2, 2004. The SAC is considering several options for a final synthesis of CRN I, including an edited book published by the IAI, special sessions at relevant organization meetings, or using the SCOPE mechanism.
• To improve reporting and member engagement, the IAI is implementing a new Final Technical Project Report format that includes sections on "Policy relevant results" and "Lessons learned". The SAC also suggested highlighting awards received by IAI scientists to re-engage member countries.
• In a closed session, the SAC expressed unanimous concern that current uncertainty is "placing the IAI’s scientific achievements in jeopardy". They urged the Executive Council Bureau to direct the IAI Director to ensure program continuity and develop a short-term action plan for presentation at the June Conference of the Parties.
